THE BALLAD OF TOBY AND PHIL
(Toby and Phil were arrested for trespass with intent to damage B-52s, Fairford, Gloucester and their case is still ongoing. Check out this site for further details.)
On the evening before
The first day of the war,
Two activists, handsome and charming,
Went to Fairford to do
To a B52
What could best be described as disarming.
For it seemed only fair
To assist Bush and Blair
In their bid to achieve arms reduction.
And they left some nice flowers
For the military powers
Who abhor weapons of mass destruction.
But the Gloucester police,
Those true guardians of peace,
Never slow when it comes to reaction,
Had a tolerance of zero
When they caught our two heroes
Engaging in this direct action.
And within the same week
A stern, upstanding beak
Said, "They're young and they're still in their prime,
But these antis are criminal
And such men and women'll
Be made to pay dear for their crime".
So peace is a crime
For which they must serve time?
That sounds like a clerical error.
But they've still had no thanks
From the Brits and the Yanks
For their part in the war against terror.
In the meantime, dear George
Takes the floor to disgorge
The fine products of his ruminations.
And his little friend Tony
Tries to cook us baloney
From United States, Kingdoms and nations.
And those who say we'll regret
What we chance to forget
Must be feeling by now they've been cheated.
For they cannot ignore
That we've done this before;
We remember, yet still we repeat it.
Journalists will scribble
Their dross and their dribble
But their claims to inform shouldn't fool us.
And we'll always be fed
With half truths and misled
By the people elected to rule us.
You can't list in a song
What is right and what's wrong
But a B52's built to kill.
So you've got to admire
The combined friendly fire
Of those activists, Toby and Phil.
Few have done more
Than they did in the war;
The only thing now that remains
Is to lobby for peace
And their early release
And more collateral damage to planes.
