WHEN ZOE WALKS
Simon Collery

When Zoe walks, the lampposts turn to stare
And marvel at the texture of her hair.
Those driving by are sometimes seen to drool
At how she walks, so proper, yet so cool.

The stars that shine above us in the sky
Jostle to light her way as she goes by.
Flowers seem pale when placed beside fair Zoe
And rivers change their course and toward her flow.

When Zoe laughs it's like a gentle breeze
That sweetly wafts over meadows and through trees.
So laugh aloud, dear Zoe, laugh for me;
I'd suffer pains for just one laugh from thee.

The night would fain protect her modesty
By sending clouds to blacken out the moon.
But the moon is rivalled in her odyssey
By Zoe's skin, of alabaster hewn.

If you should chance to doubt my eulogy
She lives on Cowley Road for all to see.
So take the number one and eastward hie
To call on Zoe, look on her, and die.
